dated winter 丁酉, likely 1957, by an artist surnamed He 何 and using the nickname 石泉 (stone falls), given name a bit hard to read

Colophon reads,
丁酉冬月 - Year of Fire-Rooster (...1957,2017)
Winter Month
石泉何廉畫 - Picture of Shiquan Hé Lián
Seal,
石泉何印 -Seal of Shiquan He

According to the Chinese language net he is a
contemporary artist from Xuancheng, Anhui.
He is good in traditional Chinese painting technique featuring fine brushwork and close attention to details in landscapes, meticulous peonies etc.
From 1995 became a Zisha (Boccaro ware) artist.
I hope the information is correct on the Chinese language net.

With regards,
I.Nagy

puzzling: Gary's scroll clearly has a water radical next to the painter's signed given name, in other words, the artist's given name is written incorrectly in Gary's scroll but correctly (without the three dots) in another, apparently inferior, version of Gary's painting. I wonder what's going on:

Rat,
You are right、 the character on the calligraphy
certainly begins with 水部 (Radical 85)
濂 -Lián -何濂 - Hé Lián
( 濂 correct, humble, waterfall, river names)
Maybe the article what I found on the web was misleading. In the absence of my Tokyo based library, I have to rely on less detailed handbooks at hand and the web.
Meanwhile, I have found out that here was a Ming Dynasty painter with the name 何濂 and
painted flowers (ref.中国古代名家明清扇面作品選椊・故宮博物院・圖書目録 14th from bottom)
I do not want to go into any more speculations.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Hi I. Nagi! Its been awhile but I was Hoping you could answer one more question concerning this Scroll Painting Mystery of mine. You had said the Artists Name is "He Lian" and that there is a Ming Dynasty Artist by that name which you had found in a Catalog. The Title of the Catalog was: "Selected works of ancient Chinese Ming Dynasties Fans, Palace Museum, Book Catalog." (ref.中国古代名家明清扇面作品選椊・故宮博物院・圖書目録) I would like to be able to View that Catalog to see "He Lian's" Fan Paintings myself to see if the Art matches my Painting style including his Calligraphy Handwriting. Can this Artist or Catalog be viewed on the Net? If not where could I view his work? Any help would be Highly Appreciated! Thank You Again! Gary Knudtzon

THANKS MR. RAT?! YOU & I. NAGY HAVE GIVEN ME LOTS TO THINK ABOUT. THE XUAN PAPER USED FOR THIS PAINTING LOOKS VERY OLD AND HAS FINE DRY RACK LINES ON IT NOT RALLY THE KIND OF RICE PAPER I HAVE SEEN ON MORE CONTEMPORARY RICE PAPER SCROLL PAINTINGS I HAVE HAD. WILL NEED TO RESEARCH A LITTLE FURTHER. REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR KNOWLEDGEABLE HELP! SINCERELY, GARY KNUDTZON

Sure, glad to help. Sorry that this one seems to be a bit of a puzzle. Stylistically the painting seems pretty contemporary, but the fact that another version of this picture exists (the auction website link I posted earlier) suggests to me that both your painting and that one may be copies of a third picture, perhaps by the Ming artist I. Nagy found mention of, perhaps by someone else. But that's speculation on my part.
