Subject:Glazed sake cup tea bowl
Posted By: John Thu, May 10, 2018 IP: 92.40.248.187 Hello everyone I purchased this small cup. It has a four character mark which I cannot locate. I also don't know what these are referred as . If they are sake cups or called Tea cups or tea bowls? It is glazed almost dark blue or dark purple. Can anybody be so kind to help me with the correct term for the item and any help with the marking? Many thanks in advance. |

It seems not to be in "The New & Revised Handbook of Marks on Chinese Ceramics" by Gerald Davison, a probably significant absence, considering that valid imperial marks have hardly been in hiding and how the bowl doesn't look quite imperial, with it's apparently reduced foot. But wait for other comments before you consign it to the back of the cabinet. |
