Subject:Help for a Beginner?
Posted By: Chris Sat, Mar 10, 2018 IP: 2601:981:c000:22e8:9

Hi everyone - well, this was my purchase today. It will look nice on the wall, but I was hoping for some I’d help.

Hello Chris
In my opinion it is trying to look Ming style although there are as far as I see no script marks or seals. The quality of the work looks below the level I would expect and the colours look wrong for me. There is something in "greens", which always worry me when looking at anything trying to be 100 +++++ years old. Perhaps someone else knows more.

Reading of inscription and seal alike,
江南 - Jingnan (Areas south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River = Scenic places)
After a little search on the Chinese net I found the
Gushi Old Paintings (古士老画)Online Shop site which sells watercolor pictures from the 1980-es to Europe and America with this inscription and seal. The shop is registered in Chao`an/Guandong.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Chris
I did forget to mention that I agree with you about the work and I'm sure it looks nice on the wall. Its one of those works that says something different to you everyday as you walk past it. Art that talks is good art in my opinion. I would be interested to know how much you paid for it but understand that you may wish to keep that info private. Best wishes D

Hi David and thanks! It is actually quite large (I only took a pick of a small portion so it would download). I paid $3 at a flea market in Pennsylvania. We like having 70’s and 80’s stuff in the house, so we are pleased!
