Posted By: Bill H Sun, Mar 11, 2018 I would guess this jar to date from the late 2nd to early 3rd quarter of the 20th century, or mid-century in other words. It is well painted, so far as the goldfish go, but the enamels and/or firing are deficient, leaving a great deal of puddling of the yellow ground. |

Posted By: Bill H Sun, Mar 11, 2018 I should have added, compared to the average kitchen Qing wares, your jar is downright ritzy. while a jar with these defects of glazing and firing might have been culled from the stack going to Western countries, there were plenty of markets around Southeast Asia that would have welcomed them for domestic sale I believe. This is something I'd hide in plain sight and love for its warts. :) |

Posted By: Bill H Mon, Mar 12, 2018 And here's a 6.75inch-diameter ogee dish from the Daoguang period (1821-50). Probably had a cover originally. The painting is somewhat finer, I think, but not much. Overall fairly consistent treatment of the ornamental goldfish. Your fish aren't far removed. |
