Subject:Help identify these marks please
Posted By: John Sun, Mar 04, 2018 IP: 2601:281:c000:b3:dd0

Would like help in identifying these marks. One is on a small cup and the other is on a vase. These were items that my father brought back from Japan during WW2. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Both marks read "Good Fortune" (福 - "Fuku"), so may this be "Double Happiness" for you.

These are Fuku 福 marks, which can be found on Japanese ceramics from the Edo Period till now.
These are also called Kaku Fuku marks = square Fuku marks.
However, without the actual items where these marks are on, we can't say anything about age.
Regards,
Martin.

I can't figure out the signature and seal on the 2nd picture.
The text on the box (see picture) is:
1) Oku 贈 (gift).
2) Kinenhin 記念品 (souvenir).
3) Kabu Nikai Mori Toda Gumi 株弍會杜戸田組 (Shareholders meeting Toda group).
4) Nagoya Shiten 名古屋支店 (Nagoya branch).

Regards,
Matin.

I think this is a beautiful Aka-e cup.
Aka-e is gold on red.
Perhaps late Meiji (1868-1912) or Taisho (1912-1925) Period.
It's a pity that there is no makers signature.
Regards,
Martin.
