Subject:Need help identifying Marker on hand-worked Sterling Silver Japanese piece of artwork. Any info would be appreciated.

I have a piece of Japanese art. It is sterling silver hand crafted of a japanese pine branch. It was given to my grandfather in 1984 by a General of the Emperor of Japan (an ambassador) for helping establish the Embassy/Consulate to Sierra Leone Africa. I have proof of everything except the artist. There is a small square marking, honestly it looks kind of like an elephant today. I have looked and looked, but I can't identify it. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's another such framed silver pine in an eBay listing. Can't tell from your photo if the signature matches or not, but you should be able to.

I saw these, and they are without question the closest pieces of art I have found currently for sale to mine. Great eye, I really appreciate you taking a look here. The signature is not similar to mine. To me, mine looks more like an animal or something, perhaps an elephant, it is difficult to tell, but not a a Japanese letter carved into a piece of silver like this one. I have paperwork to support it was given to my grandfather by a high japan official in 1984 (that doesn't mean that was the date of the work of course), I just cannot pinpoint the artist's name yet. Also, while the piece of art is silver, the signature on mine is not carved out of silver, as this one is, it is cut or pressed through a different material. I am going to attached a much better close up. One other notable difference between mine and this one is, given the frame is 14" by 17" on this one, I would estimate that mine is about 500% larger than this piece, the sculpture alone is much larger than this frame. Thanks again!
