Subject:japanese plate id
Posted By: jeremy Mon, Jan 15, 2018 IP: 96.255.84.195

I have a plate from my grandmother trying to figure out the marks on the base. I think Japanese export, gilding on it and red blue and white glaze.
Any help with the mark would be appreciated. thanks

Looks to me like Japanese Imari with a copied Chinese reignmark: Seika 成化 Nen 年 Sei 製 (in Chinese: Chenghua Nian Zhi = Chenghua period made). In this case the signature is part of the decoration, the Chenghua Chinese emperor reigned from 1465 till 1487. The date can be anywhere from the second part of the 19th century till the first quarter of the 20th century.
Regards,
Martin.
