Subject:saucers
Posted By: m Fri, Jan 12, 2018 IP: 208.105.163.162

I thought these saucers would be perhaps 1900s or 1920s because of the mark "made in japan" but was not sure because there is a lot of crazing and some rust, etc. The bottom is glazed and the foot rim is not. The mark is off center and in different spots.
Thank you.

Could you post a picture of the bottom? These appear transfer printed, which if they were Chinese, would make them new. The Japanese have been using transfer printing since the late 19th Century, so it is harder to tell. That being said, the decoration doesn't look like a style used in the Meiji Period, so these saucers are probably a post 1970 production.

If it helps, "Made in Japan" was used between 1921 and 2/1947 then after 4/1952.

Cheers,
Stan

Thank you both very much. They do not appear to be transfer printed, but I may well be wrong. I was trying to figure out if they may be stenciled.
