Subject:Usual antique flask - Japan? Europe?
Posted By: Ernst Sun, Jan 07, 2018 IP: 2601:246:8000:cb40:9

Hi -- this 9 inch flask has been in our family for decades. Jackson's Antiques in the US wasn't sure of it's origin. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hello Ernst
Nobody has said anything yet so I'll try and help a little. It doesn't look at all European. The holes at the top were I assume for some sort of strap which show no signs of wear. I.E. Unused. I can't tell the material. Base looks copper. Have you looked to see if it held any liquid? Does it smell of anything inside? Does it have a cork or similar stopper? Is the lid threaded? Since you have had it decades and there are no signs of wear to what I assume is enamel, has it only been for decoration? Sorry I can't help more. D
