Posted By: Bill H Tue, Dec 12, 2017 I believe your foliated dish is Japanese and probably dates from the late Meiji to Taisho period, or about 1900-1925. I think it may be Kutani ware, based on observation of a similar palette and style of floral painting on signed Kutani products from the cited period; see photos uploaded below. In addition to Kutani, I've also seen the palette and floral painting style on some Satsuma-style stoneware dishes signed by the Kinkozan studio of Kyoto. |

Posted By: BILL H Thu, Dec 14, 2017 I don't have a clue what the red mark signifies, unless it's a pattern name. If you look hard, there was other writing on the back that someone obliterated. The post-World War II anti-Japanese sentiment inspired some people to rub the markings off their Japanese porcelains. No way to tell if that is the case here. |
