Subject:Identify Famille Verte / Noire Ginger Jar with Mandarin Duck
Posted By: Canuck Sun, Nov 19, 2017 IP: 2001:569:bd61:7d00:f

Hello Asian Art Enthusiast.
From the pieces that i've collected over the years, this is one of my favorites.
It's about 8" Tall x 8.5" Wide (inches)
There're Mandarin Ducks, Kingfisher, Butterfly, Dragonfly, Lotus Flower and Lily pad.

I've been reading lots on this forum and believe this is the Ch'ien Lung Reign Mark 1736 - 95 ?
Famille Verte / Noire

Any info about who, where and when this was made would be of interest. Thank You in advance from BC Canada...

Dear Sir or Madam

I'm afraid this piece is probably pretty modern. The black lines appear to have been transfer printed on and the enamels added by hand. The variegation in orange enamels on the lower duck looks totally wrong for antique porcelain.

Kind regards
J.Lim

Your Chinese 'pumpkin' jar certainly carries the printed mark of the QianLong emperor, but is probably less than 10 to 30 years old. The design looks to have been applies with a stencil, then coloured.

It is an imposing and attractive piece, but not antique.

Thank You @J.Lim and @Mikeoz for your time & expertise on this pumpkin jar.
I've cleaned at least several decades of dirt and grime from this jar, so it was likely never cleaned since new.

Has anybody ever seen another one similar to this one ?
Greetings from Canada...

Was the dirt localised to any particular part of the object?

The dirt was all over the jar, maybe a little more on top where the dust gathers.
It felt sticky like something from Grandma's cupboard that wasn't cleaned for more than half a century.

Here's a pic of the dirty jar.(with only the lid cleaned !)
