Not my area of knowledge. What is this pot in terms of age or use? It is 4 inches tall and 5 inches in diameter. Green celadon glaze with an unglazed foot. Incised decoration is shallow carved.

I have a larger celadon piece that probably was a censer or brush pot and which I believe is an early to mid-19th century Chinese product. It doesn't have extended legs on the base, so would have been sand-filled for use with joss sticks if it was indeed a censer. Don't have any pictures of it on hand at the moment, but fortunately here's a link to one at the Ruby Lane web mall that's virtually a clone of mine, to include the decoration. The asking price should be of more than passing interest, but not necessary applicable to yours.

Yours, being smaller, might also have been a censer or brush pot, but for a scholar's workplace. Its principal motif features a lozenge lattice with cracked ice designs, which is quite auspicious. The diamond shaped "lozenge" is one of the "Eight Treasures" (Ba Bao) of Buddhism. I did find one closer to the size of yours and with comparable incised decoration on the sides which was auctioned as 17th century (link pasted below). While I would be inclined to call yours probably early to mid-19th century because of its relatively even foot, with no visible chatter marks, the one at the below link may be cause to put yours in the hands of someone with more experience in early celadons than I have.

Here's another censer compatible with the size and decoration of yours. It should provide an idea of current market interest.

Thank you Bill. I agree the pieces are contemporary. My wife bought the pot as being a much older work from an auctioneer many years ago. It will now be used as a household flower container where we can utilize it every day and enjoy it for what it is. You helped,AGAIN. Regards. R.Cole.
