Subject:Jun Yao / Flambé Vase Identifying
Posted By: James Sat, Oct 14, 2017 IP: 2.96.108.171

I need help identifying this vase. On first impressions it looks vibrant and modern, but in person it has a lot of age. Its glaze has lifted, the crackle has natural colouring and patina which honestly looks older than my 18th C. pieces.

I've not seen glaze like this on modern ceramics, because modern crackle is purposely done and can’t be felt when you touch it, but this you can, and it only happens over many’s years of the ceramic expanding from absorbing moisture.

The base has three porcelain spur marks and old brown glue residue maybe from an old auction house or collectors label? The foot has been ground down by hand probably because the glaze dripped in the kiln.

You can't see from the photos, but on the edge of the mouth rim, it has blistering from thinning of the glaze, again not something you find on modern ceramics.

I’ve yet to have a solid conclusion to this vase, which is why I’ve posted it again. And of the only two reposes I’ve previously had, I don’t believe they were relevant or groundbreaking discoveries of information.
