Subject:Soapstone Budha
Posted By: Ros Paris Thu, Sep 28, 2017 IP: 2a02:c7d:1d12:4900:6 I'm interested to find out some more information on a soapstone buddha. I have posted some photos - it is around 50cm tall. If anyone can assist it would be much appreciated. |

Posted By: Bill H Fri, Sep 29, 2017 This is a Shan-style alabaster image of the Sakyamuni Buddha in the "Bhumisparsha" or "Earth Touching mudra", also called the posture of "calling the Earth to witness". See the link for another such image currently offered for sale. The Shan are ethnic Tai people who live in what is now called Myanmar, formerly Burma. They are cousins of the Thai and Lao. |
