Subject:Please help with archaic maker mark
Posted By: Endre Wed, Sep 06, 2017 IP: 2602:306:c51c:e200:f

I would like anyone's help to identify the mark. I know the vase is not old, but I was intrigued by Japanese or Korean look and the Chinese looking mark. I assume that it is a makers mark. Thank you so much

I suggest it is not a vase but a Japanese tokkuri (sake serving bottle).

The mark is hard to read, but I can tell you that the character on the right is 陶 which means 'kiln'.

The mark is a rather stilized than archaic 楽 (Raku) mark. Most likely Japanese made single
flower vase or ichirin-sashi (一輪挿し).
(Not to be confused with the famous Raku-yaki
pottery)
With regards,

Update on this one. I see that this mark is bone script and it is for Aitou, from Aichi prefecture. It is common pottery for everyday use. Not old but good quality. If you see it, now you know what it is. Thanks again for the help

Thank you for the update.
After turning the mark 45 degrees to the right
it really shows two separate characters 愛陶 (Aitó or Aitou) in bone script.I found it out from the net that the mark is the abbreviation of
愛知県陶磁器工業協同組合 Aichi-ken Toujiki Kougyou Kumiai or Aichi Prefecture Porcelain Industry Cooperatives Association (Founded in
1926)
With regards,
I.Nagy

Thanks I. Nagy for the additional info! I'm happy to know the full text, I don't think I would have ever been able to find that info about the cooperative. Very much appreciated
