You don't mention size, though it certainly doesn't look as much like a coffee cup as it does a chamber pot, albeit missing the lid. Moreover, while unmarked, it bears more than a passing resemblance to porcelains I've seen by Zoshuntei Sampo, who worked at Mikawachi and painted items for Fukagawa during the late 19th century (Meiji Period). Here's a vase of mine, also missing the lid, with his signature and a similar look to your pot's pattern.

Best regards,

Bill H.

I agree with Bill H.
The style and colors are typical for early Zoshuntei or Fukagawa pieces.
I've added a picture of one of my pieces of Zoshuntei Sanpo Zo in order to compare the red and gold.
Regards,
Martin.

It looks kind of like "geisha girl" ware, minus the geisha of course. The red on the bottom looks like lithophane from the photos. What are the dimensions? Maybe an old shaving mug?

I would say late Meiji Period (late 19th/early 20th Century) based on the red and gilded ground and the hue of the blue overglaze enamel. If a chamber pot, probably for the export market because I don't believe the Japanese used them (they favored outhouses I believe).
