The mark in the square field reads down and across from right to left as "He Yin Chao Zong", translatable as "Seal of He Chaozong", a famous Ming Dynasty potter of the Dehua kilns in Fujian Province, China. The two-character seal in the gourd-shaped cartouche contains the kiln-town name, Dehua. He Chaozong, like all famous Chinese artisans, was copied after his time. If the item bearing this mark actually is yours, you might wish to show the whole thing and elicit comments on its authenticity from other forum members with experience in Blanc de Chine wares.

If I read this Wikipedia.org information (Link) correctly, the Dehua gourd seal would seem to indicate this mark isn't Ming-period.

Hi Bill, thanks for that! I compared the piece with the originals, not even close. So you are right.
