Subject:Help needed with LARGE chinese bowl

Hi!

Need you help and opinion with identification of this bowl.

Dimensions are:
23cm in diameter, 10cm high.
Two techniques of painting here, underglaze blue enamel and red painting on glaze surface. Sometime in the past repaired with staples.
No marks and signature.

This is a Chinese Imari bowl from the Qianlong period (1736-95), probably made around the third quarter of the 18th century. Here for comparison is an earlier plate, about 8.5 inches in diameter, from the Yongzheng period (1723-35). See the link below for advice from forum expert collector Plasticman on the value of replacing old forms of conservation like this with modern adhesives.

Just my thoughts on replacing that old repair...consider "don't" - I am a fanatic about purging all forms of unsightly yellow glue and replacing with modern adhesives, but those old repairs were high precision (often watertight), very expensive, usually done by a jeweller and are collectible in themselves.

Opinions vary but some would say that a modern repair would decrease the value too, as such a repair can be considered part of the history of the bowl, and a kind of provenance. (I tend towards that feeling myself). This repair is also unusual in the round staples...which suggests to me that it may be a repair almost as old as the bowl.

Consider cleaning it up (to get the black out, very easy), and leaving it just that way.

It is stunning...
