Subject:Antique Chinese/Japanese Strange Vase With Needle

This is a very strange vase has some type of writng on it with what look like an attached needle,I would love to know something about this item.How old is it,Chinese or Japanese,what is item made for.

Your strange object is a Vietnamese water pipe that appears to be missing it's stem or part of it.

The needle was probably used for cleaning the (absent) pipe stem. more images of Vietnamese water pipes are shown with the google images link.
