Posted By: plasticman Mon, Jul 03, 2017 At first it appears to be an 18th century export plate with European or British over- gilt. The more I look at it, the more I favor a modern reproduction. The lack of wear and the uniform blue brush work both lead to that opinion. |

Subject:Re: Qianlong Saucer dish ID
Posted By: plasticman Wed, Nov 29, 2017 I recently saw two small plates with almost the exact decoration in a local antique show. Both had almost pristine surfaces and the same gilding that did not correspond to the underglaze blue pattern in any sensible way. The seller would not allow me to photograph the plates because they were on hold and therefore "belonged" to the potential buyer. On close examination they were not period porcelain, but could have been made yesterday. In all my years, I have never seen porcelain purported to be 18th century with virtually no surface marring however minor. Again, the wares I got to hold and examine closely were not the one pictured as the subject plate, so I could be way off base here. There, I do feel better getting my 2 cents in. |
