Subject:Imari Copy?

I recently purchased this bowl, approx. 9.5 inches across, with very shallow sides, because I was struck by the design and the coloring. Photos of the art I have found on line seem to indicate Imari, but I would imagine this is a modern copy (English or German, perhaps?) It is signed on the bottom, and I would appreciate any help in translating the signing, as it might help me to affix a rough date to this piece. My thanks in advance.

The cursive marking appears to read down as "Arita Ware" (Arita Yaki), while the transfer-decorated pattern bears a resemblance to some of the Japanese dishes exported to the West under the "Gold Imari" label during the 3rd and early 4th quarters of the 20th century. My guess would be that your dish probably dates to around the same period.

I was browsing at a local antique shop today when this dish caught my eye. Seems to be the same size and pattern as yours, but the mark is different, while still a style I associate with late 20th century Japanese export wares. Possibly a case of the same maker producing for different distributors. This seal script mark apparently reads from the right as "Elegant Peak" (秀峰). Perhaps our Japanese savants can provide the correct transcription in Japanese.

The price tag was US$20 in case you're interested.
