Subject:Origin of the pendant

thanks in advance for the information regarding the origin of the pendant, its age and meaning of the signs of it back side.

There have been many, many of this type of pendant sold on eBay from China for the past few years, featuring nice metalwork, enamel, and some sort of glass/CZ/synthetic something "stone." They are advertised as "antique," but there are so many of them, it seems more likely that they are recent products.

I think the bottom characters refer to the silver quality, but I'm illiterate in Chinese, so perhaps someone else can translate them to English.

This set of marks has come up in the forum before. As shown they are:

興盛 - Mandarin "Xing Sheng" - "Increasing Prosperity" (both characters also are surnames)

足銀 - Mandarin "Zu Yin" - "Pure Silver"

See links to previous threads below. They include everything I know on the subject. Like the piece of jade jewelry shown at the first link, your pendant probably also is no older than the early 20th century Republic period. And as beadiste points out, it could be more recent, coming from China, where it seems everything old often seems to be new again.

Thanks for the full reply and links to previous topics.
I also have heard an opinion that the pendant came from Tibet, and I'm not sure that this is correct point.

Might be you know also if marking of silver in China for internal market required these signes 足銀 as for export out from China they marked just SILVER?

I'm also unsure about Tibet being the source of your pendant, which seems to have a dearth of Tantric religious symbolism, as compared to arts & crafts of Tibet I've seen.

I'm also lacking in specifics of China's internal regulations for marking silver, but I would guess that the Chinese-character markings also are meant for the large and ever-literate population of overseas Chinese who are found all over southeast Asia. "SILVER" markings still are useful in lots of places, as there are large numbers of English speakers in former British colonies besides the USA.

that Chinese costume jewelry manufacturers use frequently nowadays. I don't know why - perhaps to them it provides a cachet similar to the way "Native American" is used to describe turquoise and silver jewelry in the US?

These pendants seem to be attractive and nicely made, and are quite appealing at an affordable price.

The pendant in the current post came from different place than ebay/aliexpress/etc.
The lab recently confirmed the quality, which is silver. The antique shop defined that the age is more than 40 years. As there are plenty of the similar things in the market and it's a mess around this stuff, each one is needed to be examined case by case.

Just out of curiosity, did the lab identify the stone?
