Subject:Japanese woodblock print
Posted By: Donna Tue, Feb 28, 2017 IP: 174.74.114.45

Hello,
I need help identifying the artist and era it was made. It is mounted on rice paper and the print itself may be printed on a rice paper as it is very thin paper. Any information is appreciated.

This print is signed "Hiroshige ga" and appears to be of the Monkey Bridge. Hiroshige's "Monkey Bridge" from the series "Famous Places in the Sixty-odd Provinces" can be seen here at the Boston MFA:

There is also this one, in a different format than yours, that is very similar:

There is this one that was cut from a larger sheet that closely resembles yours at the Boston MFA:

However, yours is a different aspect ratio.

I can't find yours online and, thus, can't say whether is an original Hiroshige print or a derivative print by someone else.

Cheers,
Stan
