Subject:jade dragon censer
Posted By: david Mon, Feb 20, 2017 IP: 174.117.120.91

Hello, Can someone please tell me what kind of jade this dragon censer is and how old it might be? NOTE: Additional photos can be arranged if requested! Any assistance with this query would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! David.

Appears probably not to be true jade but serpentine or another softer stone. This style censer has been in more or less constant production by arts and crafts factories in China since the late 20th century. Quality-wise, they can be good, bad or ugly, and this one is somewhere in the middle with its mismatched cover and uneven carving. Here's a listing picture of a better quality carved serpentine censer of the same style that fetched $158.50, including shipping, a few years ago on eBay.

Best regards,

Bill H.
