Subject:Japanese or Chinese plate?
Posted By: Nico Wed, Feb 01, 2017 IP: 62.4.223.122

Hello every body,

I have this plate and was wondering what kind and what time period it is...? Japanese, Chinese? Ming period for export?

Thanks in advance,

I think it's Japanese, transfer- or stencil-decorated. While stencils were used for decorating Japanese porcelain as early as the late 17th century, e.g., on some Nabeshima wares, your plate appears to be from the 19th or early 20th century.

Thanks Robert.

You confirm what others said, and what I think also.
However I still question the representation, iconography, of the emperor on it and what does it really mean?...
