Subject:Song or Yuan dynasty longquan bowl?
Posted By: Tim Thu, Jan 26, 2017 IP: 64.80.141.122

Bought this interesting 8 immortals longquan bowl from a collector last week. He didn't have much info on it other than he acquired it about 30 years ago.

I've tried looking up examples of other 8 immortal bowls and came up with nothing. There are a few examples of Yuan vases depicting the 8 immortals, but the bowl shape seems to be a better fit for Song dynasty.

Thoughts? Is the 8 immortals design rare?

Also, I don't have much experience handling Song/Yuan dynasty pieces. How is the glaze suppose to feel? Smooth? Silky? Or, textured?

This one feels textured...maybe even a bit rough. You can see there seems to be quite a bit of wear to the glaze.

Is this normal, or is this perhaps a shipwreck piece that has been salvaged? I don't see any signs of coral growth, but I suppose it could have been cleaned up.

Thanks.
