Just a guess, but your statue could represent Lu Dongbin, one of China's Daoist "Eight Immortals", who often is shown dressed in the manner of a scholar and carrying a sword (See link). The figure looks like he originally might have carried something in his right hand, which item might have pointed to some other identity.
As to age, this figure looks to have somewhat less than the amount of cracking I associate with similar carvings of Chinese myths & legends that were made in places like China, Hong Kong and Taiwan in the years immediately following World War II and which frequently had bleached bone inserts for their eyes and teeth. Makes me speculate that your statue might be of the post-1975 era, when China was rediscovering these traditional carvings as a means to reap foreign exchange from their export.
