Subject:Two Chinese(?) Ink Paintings - Assistance w/ Identification
Posted By: Jonathan Thu, Jan 19, 2017 IP: 100.10.34.92

Hello Everyone,

I've two pieces of artwork I'm looking for assistance with identifying. I've taken a few photos and would appreciate anything that can be determined via the seals or style.

I've uploaded the photos I took today to Imgur and have linked it below. I have also uploaded some of the photos via url. There are close up images of the stamps and signatures (http://imgur.com/a/S74gF)

The first is what appears to be a painting on silk. It is 42 inches wide by 22 inches high plus what's covered by the framing. Unfortunately I have not seen what it looked like before framing. I believe the sign above the portico in the courtyard says "quietly" so I believe this is some sort of school?

The second is an ink painting on paper. It is 18 inches wide by 30 inches high. (http://imgur.com/qTnUGtB). My mother found this at a yard sale folded up in a bin before having it framed.

I've had no luck with research so far online so I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts this community may have.

Cheers,
Jonathan

This one is dated 1983 and painted by someone using the pen name "the tall bamboo gentleman". seems more decorative than painterly. the large seal says that it is commemorating some painting and calligraphy organization, but I can't read it clearly. Looks like it's supposed to be 100 maidens cavorting, a paradise for men perhaps. This isn't a traditional theme, but may have come from paintings of 100 boys playing, which were signify wishes for many (male) children.

Thanks again for your help and insight.

This was painted in autumn 1988 by someone surnamed Li, am not sure what the given name is though.
