Subject:Tibentan Khaden Sleeping Carpet
Posted By: Joel Tue, Jan 10, 2017 IP: 72.18.117.24

Hello. This is, I believe, a Tibetan Khaden or sleeping carpet. It measures 36" by 70" and is heavy, hand-knotted wool. Can anyone tell me the significance of the various symbols on the rug and possibly the age of the rug? The colors are beautiful and vivid and the red border area is actually a more subdued maroon rather than the very bright red you see in the pictures. Thank you for your time and consideration. Joel Stuart

Looks fairly recent (within the past couple or few decades), made by Tibetans in Nepal. I think the repeating symbol along the border is "Shou" which is Chinese for Longevity. For a comparison, check out item # 282313738992 on that big auction site.
