Subject:Japanese print reproduction?
Posted By: Giuseppe Tue, Jan 03, 2017 IP: 85.228.90.249

I think it is a reproduction. I can read the year of the snake and the editor but I can not figure out who the author is. Can you help me?
Thanks

Kunisada II is the artist, another Genji series.
and yes, I'd say it's a modern repro. Machine-cut, ultra-white modern paper and incredibly clean and overly bright and likely produced by modern printing methods.

Your print is by Kunisada II. It is No. 33, Fuji no uraba, from the series Lady Murasaki's Genji Cards (Murasaki Shikibu Genji karuta). I concur. It appears that your print is a reproduction.

The Boston MFA has a copy here:

Note the strong wood grain in the original not present in your print.

Cheers,
Stan
