Subject:Imari Fan Shaped Plate
Posted By: bokaba Tue, Aug 16, 2016 IP: 172.250.142.6

I recently purchased this Imari fan-shaped plate at a local sale. It is about 10 inches wide. I think it is late Meiji period. Any information on this piece?

I think you're right in your late Meiji dating. You might be able to get a feel for value by searching data bases such as liveauctioneers.com (a subscription site), trocadero.com and eBay using "Imari fan dish" as your keywords.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thanks Bill. I looked on Liveauctioneers. It appears similar fan dishes are worth around perhaps $200-$300. Not a bad buy for less than $10.

Hi Bill,

I was able to find an identical fan in "Shape & Decoration in Japanese Export Ceramics."
