Subject:George Zee and Co.
Posted By: Wed, Dec 29, 2004 I also have a coffee table carved with copper inlay and another material Im not sure what it is. My husbands grandfather brought it back from WWII as well. I know the factory closed in the 90's but. Im curious about the Co. was it like a dept. store or a fine furniture store? |

Posted By: Wed, Jan 05, 2005 As far as I know it started as a manufacturer of mainly teak and comphor wood furniture, but in time started outsourcing the manufacture and just added their name on furniture made by others that I presume the company selected or commissioned. The quality varies in the carving from the many examples I have seen. |

Posted By: Thu, Jan 06, 2005 Im sure many are curious if there is any value to the pieces we all possess.. from the postings I have seen.. the pieces vary and don't seem to be from any specific collection. Is there any way to find out about the company's history? Our piece has copper/gold carvings or inlays if you will. It depicts a mountain scene with a village. The stain is dark and the wood I would presume is teak. Thank you for your posting. |

Posted By: Thu, Jul 19, 2007 IP: 70.124.77.211 My Sister has in her possession two pictures that have wood carvings on teak wood and inlays of jade and other fine ivory by George Zee & Co. She has had these for approx 40 years and even then, they were bought at a estate sale. One of the pictures is numbered Z23580. Both are numbered. |

Posted By: Sun, Jan 08, 2006 IP: 69.19.14.22 I have two little display type tables that my Wifes Grandma bought way back when. She wants me to cut the legs off to make them different heights. I flipped it over to take the saw to it and noticed that it was really well built and had a tag stating "George Zee & Co LTD. Kiln Dried Art Carved Manufacturers. Factory: 83 Hung To Road. Kwun Tong, Kowloon, H.K. Tel. K-684264. Made in Hong Kong. No. 126400." These tables are a little taller than a dinner table and I would think a vase or something would usually site atop. They are nice and a dark reddish stained wood. |

Posted By: Fri, Jun 23, 2006 IP: 207.200.116.132 My family has some pieces purchased in Hong Kong in l960s, all with numbered metal plates. One that was used for storage was originally a bar, with places for bottles and a top that lifts up. We have no idea how to put it back together for that purpose and we wanted to find out by seeing a picture. I'm assuming from the postings that the files corresponding to those numbers on the metal plates are no longer available. |

Posted By: Mon, Jan 22, 2007 IP: 205.188.116.131 I have just purchased 8 beautiful George Zee & Co. chairs and would love more information about the company and the chairs' age. The numbers on the metal plates are 146128,142578 etc. (not the type of number with the year followed by a dash and more numbers). If anyone knows from what years this number series dates, I would be most appreciative. |

Posted By: Fri, May 04, 2007 IP: 207.109.146.7 I too have something from the late 60's that my mother had a friend buy in hong kong for her. It is a large black cedar chest with brass in the corners. The sides and top have very intricate hand carving scenes. I also have the original paperwork on the purchase. They paid $580 in 1967, I wonder what it is worth now? |

Posted By: Thu, Aug 09, 2007 IP: 72.9.64.198 I'm surfing also to try to find out about the glass top kidney shaped coffee table, bar, nesting tables. and tea table with four stools that my father bought while he was in hong kong back in'61. these tables are ornately carved, no inlay work , and the teak has been bleeched. I found the original order for these but have no idea of what their value would be today. If any one comes up with ideas of where i can look please let me know. |

Posted By: Sun, Oct 18, 2009 IP: 75.196.138.95 Hi there. I bought this jewelry box last week at an auction and was searching online trying to find out anything I can. I came across this forum . Can someone tell me where I could find more info on this piece? It's wood stain is fading and the brass is tarnished so I’m thinking it's old. The tag says “George Zee &Co. LTD” “ Made in Hong Kong” and Serial No: Z-28222. |

Posted By: Tue, Oct 20, 2009 IP: 172.131.106.218 'Old' in eye of beholder. Stamped brass with material added to color lines can corrode in 20 years less depending where it live. |
