Natural resins have been since as early as the days of ancient Egypt, and more extensively in the 1200's AD by the Mongols. The Mongols invented the world's first composite (made of multiple components) bow, which were bound together with natural pine resin

Is same style as low tables posted these boards in past year-or-so, made some kind molded resin compound. Search these boards for Bali you will find them. Probably made in recent 15 years.

Good luck,
Cal

I found one just like this, but cannot seem to find any more information about when and where these were made.

I actually have one of these, my parents bought it along with a few other carvings including a Buddha while my dad was stationed in Italy during the Vietnam war. Mom thought it might be whale bone, but I don't think it feels like bone, I think probably a resin. I also have a few alabaster/marble resin sculptures from Italy by A. Santini and they don't feel the same as this but I wouldn't be able to guess what it is. But I do know they purchased them in the early 60s.
