Subject:Please help decipher this Chinese incsription
Posted By: Wed, Nov 04, 2009 IP: 91.182.22.218

This pair of small porcelain plaques, part of my small collection of 20th c ceramics, were bought several years ago from a collection put together mid-century to 70s. I lost the receipt which had a translation of the inscription.
I wondered if someone could help me please. Thank you.

Thank you so much for these translations. How could I go about finding the seal mark please? and to find whether the panels are dated?
I will email anyone interested pictures of the panels.

The top piece is signed by WangQi 1884-1937, one of the famous "Eight friend of Zhushan".

The picture you email me is too small so it is hard to tell on the painting style and enamel colors. The calligraphy seen a little weak on the above picture. Fine republic porcelain are in great demand today and and I saw tons of copies out there.

I dont have my Zhushan republic book handy, but there are a lot of good reference on the internet. I am sure you can compare the painting styleand signature and come up your own decision.

Thank you KK for your help. The pictures show the calligrapy much much larger than in real as the plaques are only 22 x 14 cms each and the calligraphy is about 4 mm on average in size. I will email you bigger pictures of each if you like.
