Posted By: Sat, Oct 10, 2009 IP: 98.71.196.179 Peter, the mark says 'Made by Kozan in Great Japan' (Dai Nippon Kozan Zo). Kozan (bright mountain] is a two-character name found on some late Meiji-era high-quality Kyoto studio ceramics. It seems to me probably to belong to a artist other than Kinkozan (beautiful bright mountain) or Makuzu (also known as Miyagawa) Kozan (fragrant mountain). Perhaps someone else can confirm my suspicion and provide additional information on the maker of your vase, who otherwise isn't much of a known quantity beyond the excellence obvious in his work. The URL i've included shows another example. |
