(Rosewood,Nacre + Gold + Ivory + porcelain + green stone). It is extremely well made and it is fairly large too (40 x 30 cm or 16x 12 inches).
It bears a signature to the bottom right (It is a seal).
I was wondering if someone might be able to read what it says. Perhaps the artist’s name is there or the place where it was made or someone even might be able to tell how old it is .I don’t know much about it.It's been with my family for more than 30 years and with another family for another 50 years. I am sure it is a lot older than 80 years. Any input on this is very welcome.

I'm curious to see what you can find on this, I own a piece bearing the same seal as does your pannel.
one forum member was not 100% sure but he tought the seal reads "nantei" but no other info was provided as to age etc.

I Was once told that the seal itself bears the signature of the artist.I too would like to get more info on the artist and place where it was made,when it was made, whom to? ,etc. as these pieces are so lovely.As I said before it is older than 80 years and that's something I know for sure.So if you are updated on something regarding this artwork let me know and I shall reciprocate.It is great to see that mine is not alone. That means that whoever made it made many pieces. And they are lovely and different from one another. That's a positive thing.If you could upload more pics on that site, photobucket for instance and leave the link here it would be great.If you go to my topic (I posted them twice because I was unaware it would not be visible online at once)where it says "more pics" you'll see better resolution pics than the ones I've got on this site.I'd love to print out a good coloured copy of yours and keep it with mine, with your permission of course( You've got mine).They are so well made.That has artistic value and it was meant for a well off and an art discerning public.No doubt about it. Lets hope one of the wonderful art experts they have on this site , spot them and come up with some input.That'd would be awesome.I think that's the whole point of collecting art.Research and the enjoyment that it brings. The most important thing is to get to know what we own.The value of the artwork is second place.Because the truth is, we can attach this information to the piece,for future reference and future generations.I have no idea what they are, so much so that I called "wooden panels", I'm sure that's not so. But there you are. We need people who know their trade, so to speak.
"My wooden panel" is located in Brazil. And Japanese migration to Brazil began in 1908.And Japanese descendents are a very large,highly regarded and well integrated community within Brazil.Thank you

I have found something that might be related to these pieces above.
and I quote "Meiji-era Japanese wood panel screen with expertly applied relief images of horn, ivory, coral, mother-of-pearl and cast metal. Originally a birthday gift to King Kalakaua in 1885 from Robert W. Irwin, the Hawaiian Consul General in Japan, and his wife"

" Clearly intended to emulate the scale and impact of framed Western oils (...), these panels(...) ".

So, yes, these are certain to be 19th Century artworks. And they were made in Japan for a very select group of people. Our elusive artist will be found out.
