I love to find out more information about their maker, history of this type of pottery. Any one can help? A antique website calls them "Kyoto Ware". What is "Kyoto Ware"?

KK,

Kyoto is one of the cities in Japan having potteries that make mass-produced wares for export and to be sold in various gift shops and department stores. The term "Kyoto ware" applied to these is somewhat like calling an unsigned painting of a generic style of unknown origin "American school."

The form of the vases is a double gourd that originated in ceramics in China hundreds of years ago. I don't believe these vases originated more than decades ago.

Best regards,
Judy

These brightly colored wares are ranging from green, turquoise, yellow and purple are called Awaji wares from kilns on Awaji Island in Japan. They date to the early 20th century and were widely exported to the west.

Thanks, Judy, PyroManiac and Edward. Both what so called Kyoto ware and Awaji ware have very similar style and identical finely crackle glazes and clay body. Awaji piece often has a square kiln mark with Japan on its base. The unmarked pieces often termed Kyoto ware But Kyoto is not in Awaji Island. So why Kyoto ware??? Is there a separated kiln around Kyoto make similar ware?

I own a number of those potteries, they are not something of great value or age, but I just love their glazes and their influence on the Arts and Crafts counterpart.

There is a large number of Awaji and Kyoto ware at this link:
