Subject:Signature on Japanese Tray

Would anyone please be able to translate the name or mark on the reverse of this circular wooden tray which I recently acquired ? Included in the purchase was a round lidded box with a very similar carved scene.

Would I be correct in thinking that these two items date to the first half of the C20th ?
