Subject:Old black teapot
Posted By: Anne C. Mon, Feb 22, 2021 IP: 79.84.212.120

This little teapot belonged to my great grandmother, It was her uncle (I think) who gave it to her (he travelled to China and Japan). Do you know where it was made ? There is no mark.
Thank you !

With only one view, it is difficult to nail this pot down. It does have many characteristics of English "black basalt" pottery of the 19th century. The finial of a spaniel and lack of any marks both "fit". Since the handle is gone, the shape of that appendage gives no help. Many companies in Britain made black teapots but the most commonly seen is not this, but Wedgwood. More photos may help.
