Subject:Curious Kanji (at least I think)
Posted By: John T. Sat, Jan 09, 2021 IP: 2a01:cb05:8886:f400:

Hey!

Me again. I've actually been brushing up on my kanji (I swear) and I think I've identified: 鷙, 尾 and 月 but the rest are a mystery, especially the first.

These characters were found on the inside of the lid of a curious jubako but with Chinese men and women decorating it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards,

安政年月 - Ansei nengetsu - Ansei years (and months) → time
(Ansei: Japanese era name; 1854-1860 The inscriber
dated the jubako to the Ansei era at a later time)

The first character looking combination is not an alternative character, but an individual marking.
Which is followed by;
鷲尾 - Washio - Japanese surname

With regards,
I.Nagy

Hi,

Many thanks once more.

I'd never heard of "individual markings", I'm guessing that it's something of a signature?

Thanks again.

Regards,
