Subject:Marking on my cup
Posted By: Carrie Saxe Tue, Dec 22, 2020 IP: 2600:1700:a660:8b50:

Just wondering if anyone can help identify this marking on the bottom of this teacup

The mark reads (Kabu) (株) Yutaka ユタカ = Yutaka Stock Company (1st character is Kanji writing, other 3 Katakana writing)
The square seal mark reads in stylistic Kanji: Kutani 九谷 Kakuzan 覚山.
Which means that it is Kutani ware, made by Kakuzan, probably commissioned by Yutaka Co.
Yutaka and Kakuzan are unfamiliar names for me.
Unfortunately only a picture of the bottom, which makes it hard to date. I believe this is late 20th C.
Regards,
Martin.

Thanks so much for all the information! It’s all very interesting.
I have some more from my collection to post and am looking forward to learning about these beautiful pieces and the history behind them.
