Subject:Mark on antique brass lamp
Posted By: Brett Mon, Dec 21, 2020 IP: 69.117.75.171

I bought this a few years ago and its been in a closet since. It looks fairly old so I would guess 20's or 30's, but I could be way off. Does this looks like brass or bronze? Also, there are characters around the bottom read of the piece. Any idea what this says? Any help with this is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Brett,
Your lamp is in my opinion iron that has been plated/other when made.
I don't think it's chinese. It's obviously a character sort of depicting Shoulou but some characteristics are missing which makes me think it's non chinese.
I think it's from the 1930's.
Original shade in my opinion.
Looks nice though.

Thanks very much. I figured it was an archaic text that was illegible. I also think you are right about the plated iron. Thanks again
