Subject:unknown artist Japanese woodblock prints c 1930

HI! I have about 10 prints, inherited from a relative who lived in Japan in the 1930s. Most of them are by Hiroshi Yoshida or Kawase Hasui but there are three that I can't identify. Anyone out there who might know? One is terribly damaged by mold and I am trying to figure out if I should try to have it restored. Thank you!

The third print is by Tsuchiya Koitsu and is titled: The Mouth of the Banyu River. See the link below.

Cheers,
Stan

My 2¢ worth: I can’t help with the artist or value but the last woodblock has nice colonies of what appear to be black mold, possibly Stachybotrys or Memnoniella. I would remove the mat and disinfect and discard it immediately as it adds nothing to the value of the woodblock.

Green molds (on the woodblock) are often associated with starches indicating rice paper in this case. A paper item of significant value (since restoration of paper is not perfect or cheap) should be restored by a professional paper conservator. Even then, the mold may have permeated the paper leaving a permanent stain or hole requiring paper and ink reconstruction. I would also research measures to arrest further mold growth on the print until you make a final decision.

The first picture of a rooster is from publisher Takemura Hideo, and is by Nishumura Hodo, but not with the normal signature. See the link below for a similar print.

Not sure of the second.

The third is by Tsuchiya Koitsu from publisher Takemura Hideo. You can find it in an image search from https://ukiyo-e.org/

The middle picture was designed by Tsuchiya Koitsu, published by Takemura Hideo in 1935, and titled "Maiko Sea Shore".
