Subject:Japaese mystery mark
Posted By: Martin Michels Sun, Oct 11, 2020 IP: 2001:1c03:5805:4100:

In my archives I came across this mystery mark.
Dai Nippon, but then?
巛 Might mean Sen or Kawa.
But the last character is a mystery for me, that's why it sits in my archives.
Unfortunately I can't show the piece where this mark was on, sorry.
Has anyone any idea ?? A name ? A place ?
Martin.

From the size balamce of calligraphy I read the said character;
巛古 - Senko
If one chacracter 巛+古; is the alternative form of 苦 (ko) - however, it doesn't have much sense.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Dear Guy and I.Nagy,

Thanks you for your answers.
No offence Guy, I believe I.Nagy is coming more close to the answer. However, yours might be a possibility. I going to search the net for more info about both names.
Thanks again,
Martin.

Guy, I.Nagy,

I've found no English or Japanese sites about a Kawafune potter or painter, also not in combination with Dai Nippon or Satsuma.
But the same is the case with Senko, accept that Senko is (often) a Japanese female name with a number of different Kanji.
If I search with 巛古 I get some Chinese sites with the character 𡿵, but I don't think that has something to do with this mark.
So it will stay a mystery for a part.
Thanks again for your help.
Martin.
