Subject:Japanese old painting - Snowmoon
Posted By: Preben Tue, Oct 06, 2020 IP: 85.225.116.119

Hi,
This is an old japanese apinting showing a lovely "snow-moon" scene from a garden.
There is a signature (lower left), but I cannot see who the artist is.
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Preben

Signature and seal,
周得 - Shutoku

Shutoku was the pseudonym of Nagayasu Yoshinobu 長安義信 (1788-1868)
Painter of the Ako clan. Learned painting from the Tosa School painter Sano Ryu'un. In 1827 he was appointed to the rank of "Hōkyō. Much of his works were left and found in Ako City (Hyōgō Prefecture).

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thank you for the information!
One observation, the style and scenary seems to be kind of older than being from 1800-1850. The style is of course 'Tosa'-like.

thanks,
Preben
