While I'm on the subject. Any thoughts as to whether this could be Jade? Or something else? Bowenite again?

If this is the correct color, then it is not Bowenite, but it could be very well Jadeite. A Specific gravity will would show what it is.

Thanks Ernest. I'd say the colour is about right , perhaps a little greyer in tone. I think I understand how to carry out the test on solid objects with very basic equipment i.e. spring balance scales and a container of water but presume that wouldn't work with composite pieces including other elements , like the necklace.

If we are talking about specific gravity test, that is the best test for everything.

A thought: if you can do specific gravity tests, you are ahead of most people. Keep studying.

Thanks Ernest. I haven't done an sg test yet but i think i understand the process, I'm willing to have a go anyway.
