Thanks a lot... got three other similar ones and will post pics here if different, but did you mean it's unidentifiable or that you couldn't identify them ? If really unknown then what's the impact on a possible value and is there no other means to date it ?

3 other items of which 2 bear one same signature, all probably bought the same day at the same place in the 1970's...

Pic, 1,
The picture is so much compressed vertically that I can't read it. A better picture would help a lot.

Pic.2,
Inscription,
南山秋正為間遊夕照中
乙巳初夏
Nanshan's autumn is the best in evening light
In the Beginning of Summer of the Year of Wood-Snake (1965)
Signature,
樹棠 - Shutang - Given name
Seal,
樹棠 - Shutang

You Shutang 游樹棠 1918-? ( He was still alive in 2003)
A better known painter in Guandong province. He was the founder of Guandong Painters' Academy in the 1950s. Was a member of Guangzhou Artists Association. Worked as librarian in the Guangzhou Museum of Literature and History.
I could find one landscape from him on the kongfz.com for RMB2500 (US$370).
(Informations from several Chinese language net sites)

Pic.3,

乙巳四月 - In April of the Year of Wood-Snake (1965)
樹棠畫 - Painted by Shutang
Seal,
樹棠 - Shutang

Hello and sorry to pop-up again, but was it meant the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in your previous reply about painter You Shutang ?

http://www.gzarts.edu.cn/English/About_GAFA/History_of_the_Academy__.htm

I intend to sell these paintings and if you allow me I'd like to use the information you gave me, but all I could connect it to is the GAFA and it makes me wonder.…

Sadly I can't speak Chinese and couldn't spot anything connected to Shutang in English, so I can't provide information about the artist but by just repeating what you told me but this finding let me hope I could tell more…

In case, thanks in advance or anyway…

Dear Chud,
As long as the name of a painter in China doesn't include in a painters' names identification dictionary, his or her name is considered unidentifiable or unknown. The largest ID dictionary (1963) with two appendix volumes (1980) contains biographical data about 42000 painters and calligraphers.I do have name dictionaries covering
the new generations in the latest decades, too. Furthermore, on the Chinese language net one can keep up even with the newest rising names.
On the art market there are thousands of paintings with unidentifiable artist names. Practically, these pictures do have only decorative values.
However, don't be discouraged, vita brevis, spes fragilis, venite.... let's see the other pictures.

With regarsds,
I.Nagy

Many thanks for your time… These silk paintings were bought in Parisian galleries along with oils by HERVÉ or EVEN in the 70's, so there're few chances they be just cheap decorative items.

Found a couple of 'Yaming' on the Web who seem not connected, but also a 'Ya Ming' of whom dozens silk paintings of enough high value are on sale, some of them perfectly matching the style of those I got…

https://www.invaluable.com/artist/ya-ming-ppejhe05w8/sold-at-auction-prices/

But these red seals are never the same so I guess they don't always read the author's name, here below are 3 ones on three different works advertised as signed by Ya Ming (1924-2002) and all in the same range of price.

I guess just having the same seal on two paintings makes these ones worth a lot… : )

Dear Chud,
Your Yamin 崖鳴 is not same with the famous Ya Min 亞明

As of the seals on the above pictures,
Pic,1,
鴻天 - Hongtian - Art name,
(Seemingly nothing to do with Ya Ming 亞明)

Pic.2,
沙硯居 - Shayan-ju - (Sand-inkstone Study) - Ya Ming's studio name

Pic.3,
亞明之印 - Seal of Ya Ming

With regards,
I.Nagy
