Subject:twelve small snuffboxes
Posted By: manuD Wed, Sep 30, 2020 IP: 2a01:e34:edc9:7c50:c

Here is a set of twelve snuffboxes, I was told they all come from the same place, acquired (inherited?) in the 1960s. The neck of snuffbox 12 is damaged, and I am not sure that 10 and 11 are actually snuffboxes. Only one is signed (堂仁居).

I would appreciate some help about origin, age, purpose and value of these objects. Thank you

Hello Nr 1, 4 and 5 come from the same mold *. They are "murano"-type of glass copies. ( 5 to example is a direct copy of the nason aventurine glass )
( * compare reflections under the neck of 1,4,5 )
8 should look like cut / carved through layered glass; but it is cheaply fused - no distinguished carving traces/ borders; looks like glued on. )
12 is a chinese Murano/bohemian glass copy too.
( chinese got good in that, i have to admit - but it has no old tradition in china by the way )
Greetings
Edmund

Edmund,

Good analysis. We have a bunch of snuff bottles and no 2 stoppers are the same. Here it looks like 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 12 are the same. Also, 1, 4, 6, 8, and 10 are the same. This would indicate they come from the same factory.

Cheers,
Stan
