Text,
鳥語蟲聲 總是傳人之訣
花英草色 無非見道之文
學者 要天機清徹 胸次玲瓏
觸物皆有會心處
This is a citation from a 16.c. collection of aphorisms titled "Discourses on Vegetable Roots"
(菜根譚)
( Unfortunately, I can't find the English translation of the above book on my bookshelves, so you have to comfort yourself with my rough translation)
The chirping of birds and the sounds of insects are conveying the very truth,
The color of petals and leaves is nothing more than a letterless expression that conveys the truth.
Therefore, those who aspire to scholarship should realize that the pure and innocent heart that they have in their on right is in their hearts, that is as transparent as a crystal, and that everything they see and hear in the world is the truth itself.
Name with faded red,
洪自誠 - Hong Zicheng (Surname and given name, probably entered later)
Upper leisure seal,
急使 - Urgent envoy
Lower seal,
袁祥 - Yuan Xiang - Surname and given name
(Probably the artist)
With regards,
I.Nagy
