Subject:Inscription on Chinese Bowl
Posted By: Peter Wed, Aug 26, 2020 IP: 178.115.131.44

Hello,

Are there any experts out there who would be kind enough to translate the inscription on this small (probably newer) Chinese dragon bowl ?

Many thanks !

Peter

The mark on your bowl with what looks to be an ever-popular Chinese dragon-phoenix pattern reads down and across from the right in standard characters (when flipped) as 'Made in the Qianlong Period' (Qianlong Nian Zhi). The piece probably dates to around the late Republic period (1912-1949) to opening years of the People's Republic. I believe a somewhat similar pattern may still be produced at some of the transfer ornamentation factories in China and elsewhere around Asia. Here are some glimpses of an earlier Guangxu (1875-1908) mark & period dragon-phoenix bowl in the same pattern.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Sorry ! I should perhaps have said 'dragon and Phoenix' bowl. See second pic.
